Robert & Ellen (Adam) Mills




Ellen (Adam) Mills

Robert Mills was born at Paisley, Scotland on the 24^th November 1828, to parents William & Elizabeth (Oatley) Mills. 


On the 5^th June 1849 Robert married Ellen Adam, the daughter of James & Jessie Adam.  Ellen was born on the 17^th April 1829, also in Paisley, Scotland.

Miltiades ship

Their first two children, William & Jessie were born in Scotland.  On the 7^th July 1852, the four of them boarded a ship, ‘Miltiades’ at Liverpool with 310 other people, for a 99 day voyage to Melbourne, Australia.

They moved to Geelong where Robert got a job as an Agricultural labourer and in 1854 James was born.  Sometime later they moved to Sandhurst (Bendigo) and Robert was gold mining at Eaglehawk.  Robert  Adam was born in 1856.  They then moved to Evansford area where Robert was farming and in 1858 John was born.  Elizabeth, Thomas, Agnes, Jane and Andrew were all born in the area. 

Robert leased 18 acres of land in the Parrish of Caralulup in 1870 which late he bought.  In 1880 they moved to Waaia where they farmed 197 acres.   Robert died, 31^st October 1894 and Ellen 1^st June 1896.

Jessie (Mills) Bigger

Jessie Mills was born 26^th June 1851 in Paisley, Scotland.  She was the second child to Ellen (Adam) & Robert Mills.

She married James Biggar on the 28^th June 1871 at Lexton Bellevue Hotel.  James was born 16^th December 1845 to parent Margaret (Grieve) & James Biggar in Melbourne.

They had 3 children;

They had a farm in the Nathalia area.  James died on the 30^th August 1909 in Numurkah and Jessie died, 1^st December 1934 at Reservoir.

Elizabeth Wisbeden
(Matthews) Mills

James Mills was born 6th January 1854 in Geelong, Victoria.  He is the third child of Ellen (Adam) & Robert Mills.

James married Elizabeth Wisbeden Matthews in 1914.  Elizabeth was born in 1870 in England to parents, Robert & Harriet (Shaw) Matthews. James and Elizabeth were both deaf.

They had a farm near Waaia and did not have any children.

After James death, 31 August, 1936, Elizabeth returned to England and she died 25 May 1953.

John Mills

John "Jack" Mills was born 20th September 1858 at Evansford, Victoria.  Jack was the fifth child of to Ellen (Adam) & Robert Mills.

Jack was a farmer.

Jack did not marry nor did he have any childred.

Jack died 25 April 1944 at Numurkah, Victoria.

Jane (Mills) & Richard Thompson

Jane Mills was born 9th November 1868 in Evensford, Victoria.  She was the nineth child to Ellen (Adam) & Robert Mills.

She married Richard Thompson in Mooroopna, Victoira on the 8th February 1895.  Richard was born 2nd March 1971 to Mary Jane (Irvine) & William Thompson at Kangaroo Flat, Victoria.

Richard died 15th November 1936 in Albury, New South Wales, while Jane was killed with their daughter Helen in a car accident on the 5th October 1950 at Gregory, New South Wales.

Andrew Mills

Andrew Mills the tenth child of  Ellen (Adam) & Robert Mills was born 29th May 1871 at Evansford, Victoria.

Andrew did not marry nor did he have any children.

He died 26th May 1897 at Waaia, Victoria
