Deaf Relatives

Adam ~ Mills from Scotland



ROBERT MILLS and ELLEN ADAM from Paisley in Scotland – their two of ten children, ROBERT ADAM MILLS and his older brother JAMES were the first Deaf of about 40 members of the family to attended Victorian School for Deaf Children, perhaps while there Robert Adam Mills met his future wife ELIZABETH BRODERICK.
James and Robert are thought to be the first of the family to have Waardenberg’s Syndrome which affects the ear nerves and cause deafness.
James and Robert started at Victorian School for Deaf Children in 1864. James married ELIZABETH MATHEWS but had no family. 
Their mother ELLEN MILLS (nee ADAM) may have two Deaf sisters, so she passed the deaf genes into MILLS family. 
Ellen’s hearing daughter ELIZABETH MILLS (James & Robert’s sister) married GEORGE WILLIAMS and had their two daughters LILLIAN and AMY deaf and the rest of their children are hearing.
The Williams children Elizabeth, Edith, George, Clarice and Amy passed the genes to some of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Robert Adam Mills passed the genes onto some of his descendants including BRUCE MISSEN and DES MORRIS.

 She later married and had a deaf son called Bruce Missen.

John was a pupil at
Victorian School for Deaf Children in 1949.





Two of three children are deaf – children of Laura
(nee Patten) and Reginald Treloggen.
